It's a drawing style. Actually, it deals more with how the object is seen (perspective) The other basic styles are 1 point (straight on), 2 point ( think of a road disappearing into the horizon) and 3 point (same as 2 point, but with a third disappearing horizon)

Usually, isometric drawings involve looking at the objext with a slight angle where you get to see three sides of the object at a 30 degree angle. When you're looking at an isometric pixel drawing, it's changed just a little bit to fit better with the pixels.
